I don't care what Mike Holmes says, give it a try, it's fun and rewarding. Of course there are countless headaches and stresses, such as fixing ridiculous construction methods from previous owners or frost warnings when you don't have the heating system in yet. It'll get done, but we might get a bit chilly doing it.
It's been a bit too long since I last wrote, please accept my apologies. Lots going on though, we had our first international visitors who not only didn't tell us we were crazy to try all this, but gave us a great breakfast too. Dawn and Bart came down last weekend to help us out with a bunch of things. I kept Bart busy installing fire-stops in the stud walls, he became quite handy with the mighty air hammer. Dawn took care of a hundred details around the whole house and left us with a kitchen idea that gives us extra counter space and which we're excited to incorporate.
This weekend we were fortunate to have a visit from Tamara and Darroch, who lived beside us in Fredericton. Darroch is an architect and Tamara is a SCPM and gave us advise on areas as diverse as the structural integrity of certain interior walls to the dignified elegance of mantle pieces.
Today, Moira started cleaning the outside of the house, which needs to be done before the new windows go in. Seeing the cleaned areas, it is hard to believe that we ever called it white before. She kept going on and on about how the best part of this project was that we were doing this as a team. I thought that was a funny comment since she skipped the late shift yesterday to be at a bachelorette in Fredericton. I spent the day inside patching holes in the kitchen floors and levelling off some areas to accept new flooring, when we get to that point.
Miles to go, but miles behind us too.
